Diamax Information Systems · Since 1998

Information systems for the AI era, engineered around human judgment.

Diamax designs and builds the systems institutions depend on: the processes that must hold up under pressure, exception, and change. Since 1998.

The difficult question is not what the machine can do. It is where it has to stop.

Every organization runs in part on people who bend a rule to keep the work moving: the exception nobody documented, the call that is not in the manual, the colleague who knows why the rule exists and when it should not apply.

Software does not bend. Automating the wrong step does not merely remove flexibility; it removes the person who was quietly holding the process together.

We design systems that are honest about the role of tacit knowledge and expert judgment in a process. We automate what is genuinely repeatable, augment the work where judgment improves the outcome, and escalate to a person when the system reaches the limit of what it knows.

Diamax has been designing, building, and maintaining information systems for twenty-eight years, for leading institutions including the World Bank, the National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Medicine, American Physical Therapy Association, Pipeline Research Council International, and the National Business Aviation Association.

Seven practices, each with more than two decades behind it.

Executive systems

For the offices where consequence concentrates. Few users, extraordinary stakes.

Purposeful communities

Where busy people collaborate across organizations, disciplines, and countries to achieve defined goals.

Directories

Not databases of records, but detailed maps of who and what constitute a field.

Nomination, election, and membership

Sensitive institutional processes, conducted over years, whose outcomes have to be defensible.

Consensus studies and research programs

Where process consistency and process flexibility are both required to produce results that are objective, authoritative, and timely.

Manuals and institutional publications

How an institution records what it knows and ensures that knowledge is applied across the enterprise.

We take care of what we build.

A number of the systems we have built have run without interruption for more than two decades. We have rebuilt others two and three times, with the same firm, the same relationship, and enough of the same people that the lessons carry into the next build.

Most of our systems have outlasted the staff who commissioned them. Institutions lose their memory in ways they rarely plan for, and one of the things a long relationship provides is a place for that knowledge to remain.

Senior enough to challenge the premise. Small enough to work as one team.

Diamax accepts a small number of engagements each year. The people a client meets are the people who lead the work, and they are still here ten years later. AI is integral both to the systems we deliver and to the way we engineer them.

Start with one consequential workflow.

Most of our engagements begin with a single process that is not working and a suspicion that the reason is not entirely technical.
